Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 12, 2026
Overview
SpeederReader is a free, open-source speed reading application. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data SpeederReader does — and does not — collect.
Data Collection
SpeederReader does not collect any personal data.
- No account or sign-up is required.
- No analytics or tracking services are used.
- No cookies are set (except by your browser's standard behavior on the web version).
- No advertising or ad networks are present.
Local Processing
All file processing happens entirely on your device:
- Uploaded files (PDF, EPUB, HTML, Markdown, plain text) are parsed in-memory and never sent to any server.
- Reading progress is saved locally on your device using standard device storage. It is not synced or transmitted.
- URL loading downloads content directly to your device for local parsing. No intermediary servers are involved.
Web Content Extraction
SpeederReader may extract text from web pages you visit for the purpose of local speed reading. No extracted content is stored, transmitted, or shared.
Third-Party Services
SpeederReader connects to the following external services only when you explicitly initiate a request:
- Project Gutenberg (gutendex.com) — when you search the built-in library, your search query is sent to the Gutendex API to retrieve book metadata and download links. Project Gutenberg's own privacy policy applies to their service.
- CDN resources (cdnjs.cloudflare.com) — PDF.js and JSZip libraries are loaded from Cloudflare's CDN to parse PDF and EPUB files.
No data about you or your reading habits is shared with these services beyond the specific request you initiate.
Children's Privacy
SpeederReader does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The app contains no objectionable content and is suitable for all ages.
Open Source
SpeederReader's source code is publicly available. You can verify our privacy practices by reviewing the code at github.com/jottenlips/speeder-reader.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
